Dale Kietzman University

School of International Developement

Every student must complete the General Education requirement of the university, even though some of the required courses are not offered directly by DKU. These courses should be taken at local institutions and the credits transferred to DKU.

General Education coursework prepares DKU graduates to think critically, communicate clearly, and live responsibly in a diverse world. The knowledge and skills students acquire through these courses serve as a foundation for successful careers and lifelong journeys of growing understanding and wisdom. At DKU, we attempt to thoughtfully integrate faith and ethical convictions so that students may apply them in all dimensions of life.

  • Global Awareness and Perspective

Graduates of DKU will be able to demonstrate awareness and appreciation of and empathy for differences in arts and culture, world views, values, historical perspectives, and other aspects of life. Required: DEV207 Anthropology, 3 credits. Each student will also take one course on the peoples and history of their country or area, such as the courses offered on Africa and Cameroon.

  • Effective Communication

Graduates of DKU will be able to construct rhetorically effective communication appropriate to diverse audiences, purposes, and occasions. Students are required to take the 3 credit course in Intercultural Communication (DEV209).

  • Language Competency

DKU graduates should also be capable of operating effectively in at least two world languages. Depending on their national preferences, students may qualify in a combination of English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, or Mandarin. Six to nine credits can be earned in grammar or composition in a language in which the student did not do his secondary school work, or the requirement can be challenged by taking language examinations to establish Professional Working proficiency (ILR level S-3), as described in the Interagency Language Roundtable scale).

  • Christian Worldview

Graduates of DKU will be able to identify and explain aspects of our Christian heritage and worldview. Because at DKU we regard the Bible as the greatest example of literature and a sure faith pathway, each student is required to present a total of 12 such credits for graduation. These units may be acquired at other institutions and transferred to your program at DKU.

The mission of Dale Kietzman University is biblically-centered education, scholarship, and service—equipping men and women in mind and character to impact the world for the benefit of all humanity.
